Job Summary
Curro Holdings is seeking to appoint an FET phase head at Curro Academy Clayville in Olifantsfontein. The FET head is responsible for managing all phase administration through the effective application of Curro policies and procedures as adapted and customised to the needs of the school. To ensure high standards of teaching and learning practice, the FET phase head is also responsible for the active teaching, knowledge transfer, skills development and growth of positive attitudes among learners through integrated and focused teaching approaches and dialogue with teachers. In addition, the role involves teaching and coordinating specific subjects as per the Curro and IEB curricula for the FET phase.
Job Description
  • Perform teaching duties, including planning lessons using modern-day tools and processes, setting up workbooks and measuring academic improvement and achievement
  • Manage the phase administration and academics, including annual and termly plans and timetables, staff duties, tutoring classes, communication, scholarships and budgeting
  • Manage the phase curriculum via pre- and post-rollout reviews, checks and moderation
  • Plan and manage assessments (formal and continuous) and homework, including rosters, moderation, revision and supervision
  • Manage and mentor grade heads, including interviews, appraisals and mediation
  • Manage interventions and discipline according to Curro policies and procedures and the code of conduct
  • Plan and manage events
  • Plan and manage classroom/learning environment design and set-up for optimal performance
Key Skills / Requirements
  • BEd, BA or BSc degree and/or PGCE in FET, with a management diploma advantageous
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience as a departmental head, with experience as a grade or subject head advantageous
  • Knowledge of the IEB curriculum
  • Proven management and leadership skills
  • Ability to lead and mentor other teachers
  • Excellent communication, organisational and planning skills
  • Willing and able to work overtime and weekends and to be involved in school activities
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office
  • SACE-registered
  • Clear criminal record
